We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Fusion project. Fusion is a new and exciting project
I am delighted to welcome you to our website — a gateway to the work, values, and vision that define our national educational charity.
Since our founding in 1999, Excell3 has been committed to transforming the lives of less advantaged children and young people through education, training, and personal development. We believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we walk alongside them at every stage of their journey.
From our pioneering Black Boys Can initiative — which has empowered over 12,000 Black boys aged 9–16 — to our Apex Universities Programme, which has supported over 1,000 students into top universities since 2008, we continue to break barriers and raise aspirations. And as our students grow into adulthood, our National Leadership Network for Young Black Professionals ensures they are equipped to lead, influence, and succeed at the highest levels.
Thank you for visiting. Whether you’re a student, parent, educator, partner, or supporter, we invite you to explore our work and join us in building a future where excellence is accessible to all.
Warm regards,
Dr Cheron Byfield Shakespeare (Oxon) Chair,

For more than two decades, Black Boys Can has been a driving force for change—empowering young Black men through education, leadership, and community action. What began as a bold grassroots initiative has grown into a nationally recognized movement, shaping policy, inspiring institutions, and transforming lives.
We’ve launched over 25 community franchises, supported more than 12,000 children and young people, and helped alumni rise to become doctors, lawyers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders in their fields. Our work has been featured in landmark reports like the REACH Report (2007) and Breakthrough Britain, cited in academic research, and honoured at Buckingham Palace, No. 10 and No. 11 Downing Street, and across Parliament.
From hosting cross-party events at the House of Commons and Lords to partnering with Oxford University and founding the UK’s first all-through Christian international business school, our journey reflects a legacy of innovation, resilience, and impact. Our timeline showcases the achievements that have shaped who we are—and the legacy we continue to build.
This, leadership network, our newest project, provides a unique platform for young black professionals to develop and hone their leadership skills to enable them to take up more leadership roles in society. It will support them in navigating their way through challenges that they face, to enable them to become great leaders.
